In November 2023, a massive fire broke out beneath the I-10 freeway in downtown Los Angeles, damaging a major elevated section of the corridor and triggering a full closure. In response, the Governor declared a state of emergency, and Caltrans initiated an emergency repair contract to restore the structure as quickly as possible. Our client, Security Paving Company led the effort, assembling a statewide team of contractors to address the damage with unprecedented speed.
As the structural concrete subcontractor, NMN Construction was called in to support the rapid response effort. Our team mobilized immediately to assist in repairing fire-damaged bridge components, including columns and concrete elements that had been exposed to extreme heat. Working alongside Security Paving and Caltrans under high-pressure conditions, NMN crews placed high-strength concrete to restore the structural integrity of the affected spans.
Thanks to coordinated teamwork and a shared commitment to safety and quality, the initial five-week repair estimate was reduced to just six days. The freeway reopened ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, reestablishing a vital artery through the heart of Los Angeles.
