Location: Los Angeles, CA
Market Sector: Commercial
Complete: March 2020
Client: Ferrante Koberling
Scope: Seismic retrofit of a historic 1933 former GM showroom in Los Angeles, including structural shotcrete, cast-in-place concrete, and FRP column strengthening.

NMN Construction was proud to support the seismic retrofit of 960 N La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, a historic structure originally built in 1933 and once used as a General Motors showroom. Working as the concrete and FRP subcontractor to Ferrante Koberling, NMN performed structural shotcrete and cast-in-place concrete scopes to restore and reinforce the building’s structural integrity. Our team installed new concrete infills, beams, walls, and slabs, plus built-up decks, a spa, and pool structure, across five floor levels.

The retrofit also included significant fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) work, with NMN furnishing and installing Tyfo Fibrwrap carbon and glass fiber systems at 40 column locations throughout the building. The FRP scope was executed during night shifts to minimize impact on surrounding businesses and ensure safety and precision during installation.

This transformative project not only preserved a piece of Los Angeles architecture, but helped bring the long-abandoned structure back to life. Today, the revitalized building offers over 50,000 square feet of retail and office space in one of LA’s fastest-growing corridors.
